Lesson 14 - We were made in the image of Adam and Eve




The first thing the girls wanted to do today was to make a tunnel out of the soft tiles and crawl through it.

Today we looked at pictures of Adam and Eve and talked about the things they have - how many legs, eyes, ears, tails?, etc and compared it to pictures of animals. Then we asked the same questions about our bodies - how many legs? eyes? tails? fur? hair? etc etc And found out that we are made to look like and Adam and Eve, not like animals.








We then created ourselves from the template "God made me" by sticking hair and eyes and drawing our mouths on. We then threaded some string through the head part and wore ourselves around. We had lots of fun.

Lesson 13b - I am Thankful for insects.

Well today was a fun one.

We got straight into the lesson because I had to leave halfway through to be the companion for a district speaking assignment and I didn't want not to teach this lesson.

We had a look at the basket of big bugs we have and located different parts of the bugs - the eyes, wings, body, how many legs, colours - things that were the same and things are different.

We then moved onto the bug puzzle that I made from these pictures. I cut each bug out and then cut them further into 3 pieces. The children then had to locate the pieces for each bug and put them together.


After these activities we made the ladybugs - taking the templates, the children had to match the cut out pieces and stick them onto the shapes of the template using a glue stick. They did really well, and we only had three in the class so we were able to help quite a bit. The sunbeams template already had the ladybugs legs and antanae already coloured in to reduce the time and workload of both cutting out and the actual doing of the activity.

Lesson 13 - I am thankful for birds

I have separated lesosn 13 into 2 lessons as I think birds and bugs are two really good topics to look at. So I am thankful for Birds went as follows....

What are these pictures of?
How do you know?
What special things do birds have (beaks, feathers, some can fly, some can run very fast, they lay eggs, they make nests in the trees to live,sing and make noises)
Compare the pictures of the birds, - colours, length of beak, type of feet, eyes, swimming birds.
Look at the nests - what are they made of?
What are in the nests?
Why do birds make nests?
What do you think birds eat?
Listen to the birds making their noises on the CD...

need Pictures of Elijah, Ravens and the king.

Ahab was a bad king of Israel. Elijah was one of God's prophets.
One day Elijah went to see King Ahab. Elijah told King Ahab that the Lord God of Israel had said that no rain or dew would fall the next few years unless Elijah commanded it. God knew that Ahab would be mad at Elijah, so God hid Elijah near the Jordan River. He sent ravens with food to feed Elijah every day.
Just as Elijah had said, it didn't rain in Israel for three years.
Finally God told Elijah, "Go and meet King Ahab. I will soon send rain." So Elijah told Ahab to bring the 450 prophets of the false god Baal to Mount Carmel for a contest. The prophets of Baal built an altar and put a dead bull on it. They called on Baal to set the offering on fire. But nothing happened. Then Elijah built an altar and put an offering of a dead bull on it. He poured 12 huge jars of water on his sacrifice. Elijah asked God to set it on fire. God sent fire from heaven to burn up the bull, the altar, and even the stones! Then all the people worshiped God.

Activities - Make bird masks with feathers and sequins and beaks.
Put on bird feet and walk like a bird - flapping arms , waddling, making bird noises
Flap our wings, waddle and quack like ducks, cluck like chickens, honk like geese, and soared like eagles.
Go for a walk outside and see if we can hear or see some birds.
Colour in the Elijah and the ravens colouring sheet.

Lesson 12 : I am thankful for animals
Again I missed this lesson ;-(

Look at Picture of animals in the garden of eden and Noahs ark , (from Gospel library)
Identify the animals in the pictures, make the sounds of the animals if you know them.

Talk about why heavenly father made animals
For food- what sort of food do we get from animals - eggs, cheese, meat, milk, oil.
clothing - wool, leather, fur, skin.
They keep us company and help us.
They make the world beautiful.

Look at the animal picture cards - lots of different shapes and sizes of animals with different colours and patterns on their body.

Craft :
Read Brown Bear book, color in the 4 page template version with correct colours.

Lesson 11 - I am Thankful for Fish.

I wasn't there for the lesson this week ;-( but this is what was planned.

Lesson 10
I am Thankful for trees, plants and flowers



Well after a lengthy hiatus from this blog I am back after a frantic time of working fulltime, moving house looking after a family and losing the passwords! I am determined to keep it a bit more up to date for my own benefit as much as anyone
elses.

We are down to four in Nursery having lost 4 to the Sunbeams in January. Four is a much more manageable number in such a small space.

Today we had a great time - we played with puzzles for opening time, and then we did some painting with fingertips - see the photos below. After painting we 'planted' some flowers into small pots with playdough in the bottom and talked about why Heavenly Father made flowers, trees and plants.

Snack time lasted for about 40 minutes - all the girls were very hungry! Siena ate carrots like a rabbit and raisins like she would never see them again. Emma just ate cheese and crackers and Leslie just ate crackers. Emma F was away sick today.

I am thankful for my ears - what fun we had today.

We did lots of singing and dancing and making noises so we could hear the noises. We had muscial instruments from all over the world- chinese drums, african gourd shakers, african animal skin drums, trumpets and bells. It was not a quiet nursery!

We sang - do your ears hang low, I hear thunder, listen to the siren, der glumph. We made lots of noises with our own mouth - sirens, cats, dogs, laughing. And we listened to lots of sounds that animals make and tried to guess - Emma listed to the last sound and guessed that it was water - what a clever girl! Gianmarco loved the loud sounds of thunder and the very loud cat.

After all the fun we had snack where Emma and Leslie ate so much they were about to burst! After clean up we did some colouring in of a sheet with different things that make sound. Then we did playdough - that was VERY popular and did not want to be put away!

We missed Miriam and Gabrielle today. Siena settled in very quickly today!

I am thankful for my ears

We are going to make beautiful music today with drums, trumpets, whistles, shakers and other wonderful things. We are going to talk softly, loudly, sing softly, loudly, and recognise sounds that we hear everyday! We are going to listen to a story and make sounds ourselves!

I am thankful for my hands and mothers day!

Today we missed Siena, and Leslie.

One of the activities we did today was playing with gooey finger paint - Bella, and Gabrielle enjoyed it alot - the others were not too fussed- Gianmarco especially! I wasn't able to take any pictures because we were all so busy containing the mess!

We also made special mothers day cards for each of the children - had a special photo of each child put into a photo frame, then had the 10 little fingers poem and each child put a handprint on the card. Gianmarcos mum went crazy when she saw it!

Miriam fell off the stage today and had to be taken to hospital - she had concussion, so we hope she recovered OK.
